Opinion: Stupidest Arsenal move if they sell their star amid links with £43m move

Published

me

According to recent reports, AS Roma are keen on signing Bukayo Saka.

According to Roma Today, Arsenal want €50m (£43m) for the £30k-per-week England international Bukayo Saka. Except Xhaka, Jose Mourinho is now reportedly interested in the player he played against at Tottenham. Following Saka’s performance against the Czech Republic, the Portuguese coach lavished praise on the ace describing him as “very talented.” He also noted that his experience at Arsenal and in the Premier League aided him. If Arsenal decide to sell Saka to Roma no one would hesitate to label it as the stupidest move ever, including me.

Saka is a phenomenal talent

I don’t think it’s a leap to argue that selling the youngster would be the worst decision in Arsenal’s history.

Saka has been nothing short of brilliant since making his debut under Unai Emery.

Over the last two seasons, no Arsenal player has had more assists than the 19-year-old.

Meanwhile, his performance last week versus Tomas Soucek and co served as a reminder of his exceptional talent.

Most young players struggle on the big stage, but the Hale End academy product flourished. He got the game’s “star of the match” title after attempting the most dribbles of any player on the field.

The team rebuild and lack of substitutes make any selling a foolish decision

Apart from Saka’s evident talent, Arsenal is in the midst of a rebuilding process.

Saka, despite being only 19, has established himself as one of the club’s greatest players.

It would be a terrible idea to sell your greatest player when you’re rebuilding.

Let’s imagine the outfit decides to sell the attacker in a parallel dimension. They’d have to find someone who shared his values to replace him.

In the football world, finding a teenager with this much talent would be incredibly difficult.

Arsenal would be foolish to sell Saka when Roma is interested in acquiring him.

Probably the dumbest thing they could ever do.

First things first, you may be wondering about the whereabouts of Arsenal target Albert Sambi Lokonga.

The deal still remains.
According to Belgian outlet HLN, the deal is “99.9% complete” but the midfielder is in quarantine in England before he announces as a Gunner.

He will join his new teammates on Arsenal’s pre-season trip to America.

On the topic of midfielders, Arsenal appear to still be in the hunt for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves.

The Gunners have long been linked with the Portuguese and according to The Sun, the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, remains in constant dialogue with Edu.

However, the £35m price tag on his head remains a significant problem for Arsenal.

Les Sports have announced his arrival late last night but warns fans that he won’t be able to join up with Arsenal until he has finished his Covid protocols.

They reported:

“We come to the end of the summer series.

On Saturday morning, Albert Sambi Lokonga (21) arrived in London.

He must pass the rest and the end of the medical tests started the day before. A formality, in theory.
He will then be able to officially sign for five seasons at Arsenal.

He was unable to join his teammates directly in Edinburgh where they are starting a one-week training course (with two friendlies).

Passing through the England box where the health situation is worrying, he must respect a quarantine of ten days before being able to train collectively with the Gunners.

If all goes well, it is during a second internship, in the United States,
that Sambi Lokonga will discover his new partners.

With a preparatory meeting against Romelu Lukaku’s Inter scheduled for July 25.”

Obviously, we will have to wait for Arsenal’s official announcement,
but I think we can all be reassured that this second signing is as good as done.

Who will be our third signing?

Bukayo Saka’s injury status update ahead of semi-finals for England

Published

me

Gareth Southgate has provided an update on Bukayo Saka’s fitness ahead of the EURO 2020 semi-final on Wednesday.

Bukayo Saka missed England’s quarter-final triumph against Ukraine after suffering a knock in training after successive starts against the Czech Republic and Germany. The Arsenal teenager has already returned to training with England. Gareth Southgate provided an encouraging update on the injury issue ahead of the semi-final against Denmark.

“He should be fine,” said Southgate. “He did declare himself available for the [Ukraine] game. But we had not really had the chance to see him on the pitch and working at the level we felt would vindicate that decision.

“He will go back into full training with the group on Monday and he should be fine.”

The major question is whether Southgate will reintroduce Saka into his starting team

England did well enough without Bukayo Saka against Ukraine. But that appeared to be down to a change in formation. And also the fact that Ukraine simply isn’t on the same level as Germany.

Jadon Sancho, in particular, didn’t provide much more than Saka had in the previous two games. With Saka, you know you’re getting both the defensive work rate and the attacking output.

Saka has come off as a substitute in both of England’s starts this tournament. This is probably unsurprising given how much he runs himself into the ground while on the field.

As a result, opposing defenders become fatigued and are forced to deal with impact subs.

But that is entirely up to Southgate. Along with Saka and Sancho, Gareth Southgate has Phil Foden as a backup option, so he has a lot to ponder about.
