Arsenal news: Club target Sterling, White likely to sign, Saka starts for England

All the latest Arsenal news and transfer rumors as the Gunners prepare for the 2021/22 season

Even though it is still early in the summer transfer season, the Gunners have already been busy. And much more business is likely due soon. Mikel Arteta wants to bring in at least five new players, with a slew of names linked with a move as the days go by. As well as this, there are plenty of names linked with a departure from the Emirates. Joe Willock, Hector Bellerin, Granit Xhaka, Bernd Leno, Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are all involved in recent rumors.

Keane explains the likely reason for Saka‘s participation

Bukayo Saka’s attitude in training, according to Roy Keane, could be a significant reason why Gareth Southgate chose him for England’s match against Czech Republic this evening.

Saka is called up ahead of players like Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, and Keane believes he understands why.

“We all follow the player. What they’re doing every week for their club. But Gareth has had three or four weeks with the players.” – the former Manchester United midfielder said on ITV.

“He’ll look at players’ attitude to training. Particularly players that have been left out, and this is certainly a talented kid.

“What England missed the other night was extra energy and pace. People going past players and this kid will bring that.”

Saka made his England debut

England’s last Group D match against the Czech Republic got started by Bukayo Saka.

Saka made his debut appearance for England in Euro 2020 tonight.

He played alongside rumored Arsenal target Jack Grealish.

Decision on Saliba

Saliba spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Nice and was set to return to Arsenal this summer. It appears Mikel Arteta has already made up his mind, despite initial reports that Saliba will have a chance to prove himself at the Emirates.

It was also alleged that his age is another reason why manager Mikel Arteta is hesitant to include him in the squad.

Saliba is seen as a member of the previous administration, which will see many players leave soon. Players like Granit Xhaka, Dinos Mavropanos, Matteo Guendouzi, and Lucas Torreira.

“You will see in the summer, the possible replacement [for David Luiz],” said Arteta at the end of last season.

“William is our player for sure and that’s the decision we’re going to be taking soon.

“When we finish the season we will sit down and discuss the roles of every member in our squad and how they can fulfill that role.

“He is our player so he’ll be back here for sure. After that, we will make a decision based on an agreement of the role each player is going to have in our squad.”

But Arsenal opted to loan William Saliba to a Premier League club next season, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsenal are on the lookout for a central defender

Arsenal are set to make a £45 million move for Brighton’s Ben White. That’s after their original proposal got turned down.

Meanwhile, Lazio and Lucas Torreira have agreed on personal terms. But the Italian club has yet to agree on a sum with Arsenal.

Sead Kolasinac is also poised to go. Fenerbahce are the most recent team to express interest in the Bosnian defender.

Emile Smith Rowe, however, is not anticipated to go. Contract talks are in for a fresh extension planned in the coming weeks.

Oyegoke is reportedly leaving the Gunners

Daniel Oyegoke has quit Arsenal despite having a professional contract offered.

The 18-year-old defender came through the Arsenal youth system.

But it appears he has left the north Londoners already, with his contract ending at the end of the month.

Update on Rodriguez

Arsenal have yet to make a ‘solid offer’ for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez, according to Estadio Deportivo.

According to a Spanish rumor, Betis are too hesitant to let one of their key players leave the club this summer.

‘Many have inquired’ about Rodriguez recently. But there’s no official bid made, according to the article.

Bould leaving Arsenal

Arsenal have revealed that Steve Bould will depart the club this summer. Steve Bould’s 33-year relationship with the club comes to an end.

Bould has been in charge of the Gunners Under-23s for the last two seasons. But according to Per Mertesacker, he will step down.

“Steve has been a fantastic servant for us on and off the pitch,” Mertesacker said.

“His record as a player speaks for itself. He’s been an inspiration to generations of young players coming through the academy.

“This has been a very hard decision to make. Steve’s contribution to the under-23s and the club as a whole has been huge. He will always be an important figure in our history.”

Arsenal leading the race to sign Kessie

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are currently the frontrunner in the hunt to recruit AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

The report claims that the Gunners have a keen interest in the Ivory Coast international. They could make a move for him once they complete Granit Xhaka’s sale to AS Roma.

Last season, Kessie, who is worth roughly £42.9 million, scored 14 goals and added six assists for Milan.

Coutinho is still a target

According to Le10 Sport, Arsenal are still interested in signing Philippe Coutinho.

According to the source, Mikel Arteta admires Barcelona’s Coutinho. But any move for the player is contingent on his persistent knee ailment.

He suffered the injury towards the conclusion of last season. And if the Gunners do make a bid for him, his rehabilitation will be important.

Arsenal interested in Sterling and Mahrez

According to Eurosport, Arsenal made a bid for Manchester City’s offensive combo of Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.

According to the report, Arsenal are looking to strengthen their forward line. Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are both expected to leave this summer.

However, their wages may be a stumbling block.

Sterling reportedly makes £300,000 per week and Mahrez earns roughly £120,000.

Arsenal face Berge setback

According to Yorkshire Live, Arsenal target Sander Berge is not lobbying for a move away from Sheffield United.

The Norwegian has a £35 million release clause in his contract. But Sheffield are hesitant to accept anything less than that after paying £22 million for his services.

Arsenal Fulham West Bromwich Sheffield United

According to the report, the 23-year-old is fully committed to Sheffield United ahead of next season and will not submit a transfer request to join a Premier League club.

Arsenal set a price for Guendouzi

According to Renascença, Arsenal is expecting a £17 million fee for wantaway player Matteo Guendouzi this summer.

According to the report, Benfica are keen on signing the Frenchman after Arsenal turned down a low-ball offer from Marseille.

Guendouzi’s current contract at Arsenal expires in a year, although Arsenal apparently has the option to extend it for another year if they so desire.

Ramsey is likely to depart Juventus

According to Italian source Calciomercato, former Arsenal hero Aaron Ramsey will likely leave Juventus this summer.

According to the article, Juve are willing to let the Welshman leave this summer, just two years after he arrived on a free transfer from Arsenal, with some speculating that he may return to the Emirates.

Arsenal made it clear that after letting him out on a free they want him back for free but Juve aren’t very keen on losing another player as a free agent.

Ben White‘s signing supported by former Tottenham striker

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes that buying Brighton defender Ben White would be a wise investment for Arsenal.

“I am a big Ben White fan,” said Bent on talkSPORT.

“He can play right of a three, center of a three, and holding midfield. Needs must.

“But I am a big fan of his. I have liked him ever since he was at Leeds on loan. He has shown great maturity. I think they tried to get him back when they got promoted, didn’t they?

“But for him to go to Arsenal now then I am all for that. And for £40 million, I think he’s worth every penny.”

The Gunners made a £40 million approach for White last week, but Brighton turned it down, with the Seagulls apparently demanding closer to £50 million for the Englishman.

Fans demand William Saliba inclusion

William Saliba kept his 16th clean sheet of the season for Marseille on Sunday evening and Arsenal fans are demanding he plays next season.

The future of Saliba continues to hang in the balance,
with Arteta previously remaining coy on whether Saliba will be a part of his plans in 2022-23.

But this weekend saw the Frenchman keep his 16th cleansheet of the season while on loan in Ligue 1.

It is unlikely that Saliba will want to remain at the Emirates to just be sent out on loan again,
having spoken of how he has enjoyed his time in Marseille.

So after this latest display, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to once again discuss the player’s future, with many suggesting that he should make up part of Arteta’s back line next season.

Nicolas Pepe drops Arsenal team news hint over Mikel Arteta’s starting XI vs Southampton

Nicolas Pepe drops Arsenal team news hint over Mikel Arteta’s starting XI vs Southampton

Arsenal take on Ralph Hasenhüttl’s struggling Southampton side this afternoon in the hope of getting back to winning ways.

A combination of poor technical security within the middle third,
the inability to win second balls and questionable in-game management from manager Mikel Arteta prevented the Gunners from taking a single point against both Manchester United and Everton.

It’s therefore imperative that the north Londoners produce a desirable performance and clinch three points at the Emirates today.

Whilst Arteta will be slightly concerned with the goals that have been conceded of late,
the major worries still revolve around the frontline and the lack of consistent attacking patterns.

Arsenal currently sit on a negative four-goal difference,
with senior strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette both struggling with their form.

Despite this, £72 million club-record signing Nicolas Pepe has appeared to drop down the pecking order,
with Eddie Nketiah given minutes ahead of him from the bench in Arsenal’s last two games,
despite the fact that the 22-year-old Englishman has rejected a new deal.

Whilst it’s clearly apparent that Pepe struggles to fit into a system that adopts positional play and instead is tailored to a team that plays counter-attacking football, the former Lille forward has demonstrated the ability to influence proceedings in moments through either goals or assists in Arsenal colours.

Could Nico Pepe make the difference?

Given the fact that Arsenal are struggling within the final third,
perhaps he could be the man to make the difference.

Now, though, it is claimed Arsenal want a different Everton forward: Richarlison.

The Brazilian was in fine form in the Toffees win over Arsenal on Monday night and Fichajes reckons that performance has taken him to the top of Arteta’s wishlist.

The Gunners want Wijnaldum

Arsenal are also said to be in the running to being Georginio Wijnaldum back to the Premier League.

Wiljnaldum left Liverpool last summer to join PSG on a free transfer but his big move hasn’t gone to plan,
with the Holland star unable to pin down a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s XI.

Sky Sports says PSG are open to letting Wijnaldum leave the Parc Des Princes on loan in January,
with Arsenal ‘thought to be an option’.

Marca also suggests Newcastle as a possible destination should the midfielder wish to return to the club he left to join Liverpool in 2016.

Newcastle after Elneny

Of course, Newcastle have other irons in the fire…

The Magpies have been linked with 427 players since their takeover but the Daily Mail says their list has been narrowed down to five.
